⚠️ The superlative can easily be confused with the comparative
Superlative adjectives are used to compare two things. One having the highest quality or characteristic while the other has the lowest quality or characteristic.
*CVC stands for consonant – vowel – consonant, example → hot becomes hotter
(adjectives ending with « w » do not follow this rule → slowest, fewest, newest, lowest, etc.)
**If the adjective ends with -y it is transformed to an -i and -er is added which becomes -ier
Important exceptions to remember are…
- good → best
- simple → simplest
- bad → worst
- quiet → quietest
- far → farthest / furthest
