Articles are used before nouns. In English, there are four different articles:
A – is used with countable nouns for not specific things (a cat is crossing the road, a cat that I have never seen)
AN – is used like « a » with nouns starting with a vowel sound (an apple is on the table, an artist is painting)
THE – is used for specific things, known things, references (the cat I’m looking at, the girl you know about)
Ø – is used for things in general, or for uncountable nouns (I love Ø animals, I need Ø water right now)
